Do You Accept Responsibility?

So when someone tells you that it is your responsibility to (do this, do that, do the other) how do you typically process that statement? What feelings typically emote from within you, what past experiences come to mind; perhaps you dislike the term personal responsibility; are you aware what personal responsibility means?

More importantly do you know the benefits to understanding that accepting personal responsibility and accountability can change your life in a positive manner?

Know Thyself

It does and it will but it requires a commitment to change your way of thinking; to look at all occurrences in your life from a different vantage point. It also requires you to honestly ascertain if you have the spiritual maturity to go within and “judge” yourself to determine if you are a person who takes responsibility for your actions, words,and thoughts!

As I reflect back in my life it brings up for me, in this moment, those times in my career, my church, my social life, my relationships instances when I was totally unaware of the impact of my choices. Worse still I was oblivious or lacked consideration as to how it may impact others even though parents had tried to instill this responsibility into me in childhood. Fortunately, as I matured and life events presented challenges that forced me to review my paradigms. I began to retrain my brain and behaviors. From there I began to search out knowledge to recognize triggers or situations that would stretch me to the limit. It is a lifelong process but one worth embarking upon.

I occasionally still try and take on responsibility for others; still demonstrate trying to be a peacemaker; still say sorry for things that were not my responsibility (to keep the peace usually) but now I witness and monitor my behavior before and after, I attempt to ensure that my words and actions are of the highest nature possible in the moment and if they are not I take accountability and apologize to those I may have potentially hurt.

Have you recently encountered perhaps some of the following:

  • responded to or been targeted in a social media post in a negative, hostile manner
  • feeling unappreciated or undervalued in your job
  • are you “blaming” others or circumstances for not moving ahead in life
  • is your behavior one of requiring control over everything to the extent you do not respect and honor others input
  • do you feel alone, abandoned, without friends

If so know you are not alone in these experiences, that all of us have these moments but by being aware that we are demonstrating this is the springboard for change.

Only You Can Change Your Happiness

It is only you that can change your happiness; only you that can maneuver the circumstances such that you bring more value to your job and relationships; only you that creates your “destiny” and manifests abundance into your life.

Start to change your life and grow by setting the intention to bring more into your life; perhaps develop a practice of meditation; monitor your thoughts, words and actions; network with positive people; find a mentor (or role model) to help you be accountable; eliminate negative behaviors and people; gain more knowledge in areas that you connect with as a passion. Remember take accountability and wondrous things will manifest provided you take ACTION.
